State of Iravalar in Purananooru

Abstract

Sangam Literature helps us to know more about the living style, habitats and culture of Sangam Age People. Sangam Literature is classified as Pattum Thogaiyum. The Books which belongs to the category called ‘Thogai’ is a collection of songs sang by many poets. The collection of eight books contains six Agam books, two Puram books and one book which is a mixture Agam and Puram. Purananooru is one among the two puram books. It has four hundred songs about puram. Purananooru well explains about the Heroism, Fame, Donation, War of Sangam Age People. Hence it is known as the Treasury of Historical events. This article ‘The State of Iravalar in Purananooru’ describes about the Meaning of the word ‘Iravalar’, Nature of Iravalar, Poverty of Iravalar, Difficulties faced by Iravalar in their path, Request for the needs, Presents received by Iravalar.
